Tens of thousands of peasants came from all parts of India to participate in a massive protest action at the Parliament in New Delhi on 20th November 2017. The protest action was organised by the All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee (AIKSCC), consisting of over 180 organisations. Peasants came from all corners of India, including large contingents from Punjab, Maharashtra, Haryana, Jharkhand, Karnataka, UP, MP, Rajasthan, Odisha, Bihar and Bengal as well as from far away states like Tamilnadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Assam. A large number of women participated in this protest. Peasants marched from Ramlila ground to Parliament street, where the meeting was organised in the form of a kisan sansad (peasant parliament).

In the first session of the kisan sansad, women farmers talked about their miserable situaton. In the second session, the two main demands for which all the farmers organisations have come together were presented as two Bills to be passed by the kisan sansad. These were,

  1. for a one-time complete and unconditional waiver of bank loans, and
  2. for government procurement of all produce at remunerative prices.

After the kisan sansad passed these Bills, government is to be pressurised to present and pass these in the Indian Parliament.
