In support of Mumbai’s motormen

Sir, The demands of the Central and Western Railway motormen are totally just. It is the worst kind of exploitation to keep workers on contract when they have been working continuously for over 20 years. It is indeed a strange principle that is applied in our country. Those in the highest positions are not at all accountable, they are paid the highest salaries and are afforded all kinds of perquisites, and they are permanent employees! On the other hand, workers at the lowest rung who are paid an apology of a wage have the sword of contractual employment forever hanging over their heads - this is the worst kind of exploitation.

The demands of the motormen must be fulfilled immediately. Loktantrik Samajwadi Party, Coal Workers Panchayat and the Home Guards Panchayat support the brave struggle of the motormen. We congratulate the motormen and hail their struggle which has kindled the fire of self-confidence and optimism in workers countrywide when the voices of protest are hardly heard at present, in the face of the economic recession and the offensive of the capitalists.

Yours truly,
Raghu Thakur, Loktantrik Samajwadi Party, Coal Workers Panchayat, Home Guards Panchayat

Parties of the capitalist class claim that there is no
alternative to the program of globalisation, liberalisation
and privatisation. The truth is thatthere IS an alternative.

The alternative is to reorient the economy to fulfil people’s
needs instead of fulfilling capitalist greed. This is the
program for the Navnirman of India.
