UPA government and the working class

Sir, I am writing to thank you for the timely and educative article entitled `UPA Government and the Working Class: Attacking workers in the name of "aam aadmi"' published in theJune 16-30, 2010 issue of People's Voice.

The article is striking for its clarity and simplicity of expression, and also for catchingthe very essence of the UPA Governments of Manmohan Singh.  The article clearly defines the two periods, UPA-1 and the current period UPA-2. By deliberating on the objective conditions of the period, it clearly shows how the politics of conciliation of UPA-1 paved the path for the increased onslaught on the working people of the country.

The article clearly captures the inter-relationship between the yearning of the masses for security, employment and a human existence, and the cynical manipulation of these by successive Governments. If anything, the UPA-1 regime clearly shows that there cannot be any `human face' for capitalism in India.  By hiding behind the slogan of working forthe "aam admi" the UPA Government has tricked the people of India, not without the assistance of the parliamentary communists that it can somehow provide for the people of India.  By launching NREGA, it managed to cynically cap the rural discontent and also produce an engine for demand for the capitalists.  All these schemes will soon run aground, if they already have not.

The message is that working people can not and should not allow their programme to be set by the exploiters. The vast rumblings in the ranks of the working people across the length and breadth of the country must be organized into a powerful political force that will bring this state of affairs to an end.  The CGPI is in the forefront of this organizing work to bring the working people to rule.

Parties of the capitalist class claim that there is no
alternative to the program of globalisation, liberalisation
and privatisation. The truth is thatthere IS an alternative.

The alternative is to reorient the economy to fulfil people’s
needs instead of fulfilling capitalist greed. This is the
program for the Navnirman of India.
