The article entitled `Reaffirming Leninism on the 14th birth anniversary of Comrade Lenin (Parti II)’ in the May 15-31, 2015 issue of MEL is extremely educational. Indeed, one of the greatest contributions of Com. V. I. Lenin has been the book “Imperialism, the Highest Stage of Capitalism” where the title itself speaks volumes. In fact, if one were to pay heed to simply the title, many misconceptions about the nature of imperialism would simply fade away. I thank you for recalling the five essential features of capitalism in this stage, which may be paraphrased as (i) concentration of production and capital and the subsequent domination of monopolies, (ii) rise of parasitic finance capital, (iii) export of capital, (iv) cartelization, and (v) territorial division.
Indeed, Com. Lenin showed how the uneven growth of capitalism invariably leads to the formation of imperial powers and the rise of inter-imperialism rivalry. Nevertheless, it is precisely these conditions that also lead to the sowing of the seeds of revolution.
I thank you for bringing to the attention of the reader the importance of the validity of the thesis of Com. Lenin to the present era. This era is one where on the one hand, the US has declined economically, but on the other it is the one where the US has been aggressively launching wars all over the world to hold on to its dominant position, and to box in threats to it from China and Russia, and also to ensure that its economy grows faster than that of Europe. On the other hand, there is a worldwide hatred for this state of affairs, with the peoples of the world refusing to accept attacks on their standard of living due to the capitalist offensive. Thus, the era continues to be one of contradictions between the exploiters and the exploited, the imperialism and the peoples and the inter-imperialist contradictions, which leads one to conclude that the era is again conducive to revolution. Thus, one must face the fact that imperialism is indeed a stage of capitalism and not the product of a policy of this or that government. In particular, at this stage it is the US imperialist set-up which is the most reactionary one with a highly militarized state controlled by financial oligarchs, for which there is no other option but continuous war. Furthermore, the Indian bourgeoisie, is now in cahoots with the US in order to further its own imperialist ambitions, thereby playing with the fate of the country. This is a recipe for disaster for the people of India and its neighbours.
The above said, the article emphasizes that at this stage, we must carry out our ideological struggle and fight the imperialist onslaught, and never side with imperialism, no matter what the pretext is. We must prepare the working class for its historical role and carry out the tasks of revolution. I second the call `Long live Leninism’.
