Dock workers boycott Israeli ships

Workers in Kochi Port have imposed a boycott on Israeli ships and cargo, in protest against the siege of Gaza. The boycott began on June 17, 2010.

On June 23, trade unions held a joint protest rally in Kochi Port near the office of Zim Integrated Shipping Services Pvt Ltd – the Israeli shipping line. Speakers at the rally condemned Israel's raid on an aid flotilla bound for Gaza on May 31 and expressed the solidarity of workers at Kochi Port with the people of Palestine. They declared that the workers of Kochi Port stand united with the worldwide boycott of Israeli ships by workers of Sweden, Britain, South Africa and other countries.

Andhra Pradesh teachers want investment in Municipal Schools

Teachers of Municipal Schools in Andhra Pradesh have been agitating for improvement in the facilities and running of these schools. The teachers have pointed out that even though various schools have been included in the so called "success school program", nothing has changed on the ground. Not even a single post has been sanctioned in these schools, although the programme was launched with much fanfare by inaugurating additional sections and introducing the syllabi in English medium. More than 1,000 teacher posts in municipal schools across the state have remained vacant for several years.
