Bihar University workers' struggle

More than 33,000 non-teaching workers of nine universities and 250 colleges have not received their salaries for the last four months. They have launched an indefinite strike over this issue. The strike has already paralyzed the functioning of all the colleges and universities in the state. All works of admission, examination and teaching have been adversely affected by the strike.

In a bid to threaten the striking workers, Patna University authorities have directed the principals of colleges and heads of postgraduate departments to furnish on daily basis the list of employees who are on strike. The college authorities have also been directed to get the college gates opened with the help of the district administration. It may be noted that the striking workers have locked the gates of the colleges to prevent their functioning.

Meanwhile, 10,000 university and college teachers in the state are also on an indefinite strike in support of their long standing demands.

The alternative is to reorient the economy to fulfil people’s
