On August 30, Lok Raj Sangathan organized a meeting in Mumbai for the Railway workers of Western Railway to discuss “Communal violence – Its Roots and the Solution”. The meeting was attended by a large number of railway men. The program included a one and half hour power point presentation using audio visual aids by the youth of Lok Raj Sangathan. After the presentation there was a lively discussion and one after another, the railway men came forward to express their views. With deep anger they denounced the ruling class, the Indian Capitalists, and their State for the continued subjugation of the working people, for upholding the most obscurantist beliefs and practices such as the caste system and for creating hatred between different communities. The railway men of Western Railway thanked Lok Raj Sangathan for organizing this program.
A similar program was organized by Lok Raj Sangathan at a Central Railway Workers’ Colony, in Central Mumbai on September 6th 2015. This meeting was attended by many of the residents including railway men, women and youth. Here also the presentation by Lok Raj Sangathan was appreciated by all. After the program, many of the residents, especially the women, requested Lok Raj Sangathan to repeat the presentation for the youth of the colony who they said needed to know all the facts that had been so nicely presented.

At the end of the meeting, based on the presentation and ensuing discussion, those present expressed their agreement with the following conclusions:

“Today all over the world big capitalists are flourishing, while the condition of billions of working people is deteriorating. This is happening because all over the world, including in our country, the big capitalists are ruling. To safeguard their rule, they use the machinery of the state, including police, armed forces, bureaucracy, judiciary, etc. which serves them today – the improved version of the state machinery that they inherited from the British.

“Communal violence is violence organised against a targeted community in order to achieve a definite political objective. It is organised to divert people from fighting for their rights, to turn their attention away from the ruling class. It is one of the ways of dividing and ruling. Class division is the fundamental division of society. In order to hide this division, the ruling class focuses on all other differences such as those between different religions castes, languages, nationalities, provinces, etc.

“Though our country had its problems before the British rule, communal violence was not one of them. The British started organizing communal violence in our country to safeguard their rule. They used the state machinery they had set up for this purpose. They were the first to link the word ‘Hindu’ with a particular religion and to divide us between the so-called ‘Hindu majority’ and ‘Muslim and other minorities’’. The present day ruling class does all this.

“People are not communal. In fact, when the ruling class organises communal violence, there are countless examples of people heroically defending those from the targeted community, even at the cost of their own lives!

“The Indian state is communal, just as the British state was before independence. The so-called ‘secular’ parties of the ruling class are also communal. So the problem of communal violence cannot be eradicated by voting these parties to power. In fact, the majority of instances of communal violence have occurred during their rule. The division between ‘secular’ and ‘communal’ is meant to divide the working class into two camps of the ruling class, while the need of the day is for the working class to unite against the ruling class.

“We need to unite against communal violence on the basis, “An Attack on One is an Attack on All!” We need political power in our hands. Come, let us all advance towards Lok Raj!”
