Titwala rail passengers' agitation

Titwala in Maharashtra is famous for tourism. However, travellers have to face many difficulties due to several problems at Titwala railway station. Because of these problems, several travellers and residents have placed their demands to the railway adminstration. Railway adminstration has however ignored the problems and the demands. Rail travellers, together with residents have come together to establishe the Railway Passenger Janhit Sangharsh Manch.

Damaged rails, broken pentograph, broken wires, malfunction of signals, late running of trains, etc. have become common occurrences. Because of this, rail passengers often get late in reaching their offices. The Manch obtained signatures from 1800 rail passengers on a charter of demands and handed it to the DRM, Mumbai. Out of the 12 demands, the adminstration has only addressed their demand for drinking water. Rail passengers struggle has forced the railway administration to give assurances to fulfil some of the demands, which include, holding back the mail-express trains in Titwala station if the commuter trains are late, and allow the passengers to board the local trains, making arrangements for drinking water at the platform, provision of treatment and ambulence facility for accident victims and reopening of some toilettes.

When after two months, promises made by the DRM were not fulfilled, then the Manch submitted their demands to the Senior GM and Railway Minister on 17th January 2017 with 11,024 signatures. According to the news reports, now they are preparing to escalate their struggle.
