Gramin Dak Sevaks are victorious in their struggle

An indefinite all India strike was started on 22nd May 2018, under the banner of the ‘All India Gramin Dak Sevak Union’(AIGDSU). Their struggle met with success on the 15th day of their strike i.e. on 6th June when the government finally accepted the demand to increase their wages.

It should be noted that the Gramin Dak Sevaks have been waging struggles for their just demands for past many years now. But the government has been constantly ignoring their demands. However, the Gramin Dak Sevaks are an essential part of the Indian Postal services. They walk for miles and deliver our posts across rural villages of India, remote areas and inaccessible hilly areas. The government with its policy of privatization, is completely ignoring this section of workers that is connected with the rural post services.

The demands of Gramin Dak Sevaks are :

  1. Permanent appointments must be given to Gramin Dak Sevaks.

  2. All positive recommendations of the GDS committee, along with the suggestions from the union, should be implemented at the earliest.

  3. Post office branches must be kept open for 8 hours.

  4. 100 percent Compassionate appointment must be guaranteed.

  5. Transfer policy should be implemented for Gramin Dak Sevaks.
