Delhi University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) organised a dharna at Parliament on July 2, 2018, resuming their agitation against retrogressive recruitment policy for teachers and against privatisation of higher education. Earlier, teachers of Delhi University and its affiliated colleges had struck work from May 9 to June 19, to oppose the changes in recruitment policy for teachers notified by the UGC on March 5 and the move to privatize higher education by giving autonomous status to specific colleges. As part of their agitation, the striking teachers boycotted the work of evaluation of the examinations.

The striking teachers had called off the boycott of evaluations on June 18, following an assurance by the Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry that the ad-hoc teachers would not be displaced in the forthcoming academic session and the other demands would be looked into. DUTA announced its decision to continue the agitation, starting with a protest action at Parliament on July 2.
