Birju Nayak was successfully nominated as the candidate from South Delhi, for the Lok Sabha 2019 elections. He is an active member of the Communist Ghadar Party of India.
His election symbol is WATER TANK.
Activists of the Communist Ghadar Party of India, as well as women, youth and residents across the entire constituency, activists of other communist parties, trade unions and organisations fighting for people’s rights – have all been participating enthusiastically in the election campaign of Birju Nayak.
Campaign vehicles decorated with bright posters of Birju Nayak have been going around the residential areas, industrial areas and commercial centres in the various parts of the constituency. From Palam and Bijwasan at one end, to Bhati Mines at another, through Badarpur and Okhla Industrial Estate, through Devli, Chhatarpur and Mehrauli, the campaign vehicles, accompanied with teams of enthusiastic youth, have been taking the message of Navnirman of India, which is the core of the campaign of Birju Nayak.
Slogans reflecting the sentiments of the people and boldly highlighting the main aspects of the program of Navnirman, can be heard, loud and clear, throughout the campaign trail –
Jobs, security, dignity – this is our demand! India wants prosperity, security and dignity!
Work for every pair of hands; fair wages; no fighting among us; let there be peace and harmony!
Fulfil our demands! Ensure sukh and suraksha for all! Stop dividing us on the basis of caste and religion! End the plunder of our labour and resources!
Electricity, water, roads, housing, healthcare, education, livelihood – this is our desire!
An attack on one is an attack on all!
With political power in our hands, oppression and injustice we shall end!
Workers, peasants, women and youth, India belongs to us! We are her masters!
Revolutionary songs fill the air … calling on people to unite to end our oppression and to work for a bright future, to take power in our hands.
Through the audio announcement people come to know that Birju Nayak has been organising the people of the area to unite and fight for their rights, for minimum wages of workers, for piped water to each household, for basic civic amenities, for right to education and health care, for equal rights and security of women, and so on. He has been in the forefront of the struggles. He has been a leader and source of inspiration for the youth.
He promises to put forward the agenda of the people. “If I win, I will be your voice in the Parliament”, he confidently declares.
Street-corner public meetings are being held every day. Proudly holding up bright red flags and banners of Birju Nayak, the youth gather around. Indira Kalyan Vihar, Tekhand, Golakuan, Harkesh Nagar, Mehrauli central market, Palam metro station, and many other places have been the scene of such meetings.
Activists of the Communist Ghadar Party of India address the people, who are attracted in large numbers by this unique and enthusiastic campaign. Many trade union leaders, activists of fraternal communist parties, activists of organisations and individuals who have been fighting for the rights of the people, all join the public meetings. Many of them have fought shoulder to shoulder with Birju Nayak and together braved the lathis and water cannons of the police. They too speak in support of Birju Nayak and express unanimity and solidarity with the program he is fighting for.
The speakers point to the need for political power in the hands of the people. They call for a new direction to the economy, one that is geared to fulfil the growing needs of our people. They call for an end to a system that is designed to exclusively fulfil the rapacious greed of the Tatas, Birlas, Ambanis and some 150 monopoly capitalist houses that are ruling over us. They call for sovereignty, supreme decision making power in the hands of the people. They highlight the need for people to have the power to select candidates for election, to hold elected representatives to account and recall them if they violate the interests of the people. They demand the right of people to initiate legislation in the public interest.
As dusk begins to set in, the candidate Birju Nayak takes the mike and appeals to the people. “I am one among you. I have shared weal and woe with you. I have fought with you for more than 20 years now, ever since I was a youth. I will not let you down. My party, Communist Ghadar Party of India, is the bearer of the valiant traditions of the Ghadaris, of Bhagat Singh and his comrades, of countless revolutionaries who sacrificed their lives for the liberation of our people. Our goal is Navnirman, political power in the hands of the people. Do not waste your vote on those who serve our exploiters. Vote for the candidate you have brought forth from your midst, who will always be there with you”.
