18 January 2020

Gandhi’s last fast was to ensure the safety of Muslims in independent India. He brought the fast to a close on 18 January, 1948 only when various groups including the RSS and the Hindu Mahasabha agreed to sign a declaration promising the security of life and property of Muslims.

The Citizenship Amendment Act and the proposed NPR and NRC process shatters the promises made in that declaration. For Gandhi, India belonged to all. He would have found the idea of linking citizenship to religion abhorrent.

On 18 January 2020, we will gather on the steps of  Jama Masjid, Gate no 1,  in memory of Gandhi's last fast and to pledge that we will protect the Constitution of India and thereby the promise of democracy, secularism, equality and fraternity that keeps us the people of India together.

6.30 PM - A candle light march from Hamdard Dawakhana, Lal Kuan.

7.30 PM -  Gathering on Jama Masjid steps, Gate no 1

Venue: Metro stations - Jama Masjid, Chandni Chowk, Chawri Bazar.

Manifesto 2014Unite around the program to reconstitute the Indian Republic and reorient the economy to ensure prosperity and protection for all!

There is growing realisation among workers, peasants and other self-employed people that the program of liberalisation and privatisation only serves to enrich an exploiting minority at their expense. Mass resistance is growing to this anti-worker, anti-peasant and anti-national program.
