Rajasthan Road Transport workers on indefinite strike

As a result of this strike, over 4500 buses in entire Rajasthan are not plying on the road. It is estimated that over 10 lakh people use this service daily.

The key demands of the workers is as follows: 1) Filling the vacant positions in the transport department; 2) Purchase of new buses; 3) implementation of 7th pay commission recommendations; 4) Payment of arrears of the retired workers; 5) Purchase of ETM machine.

Earlier the transport workers had organised a 3-day strike on July 2018. Following the strike the transport minister, officers from transport department reached an agreement with the representatives of the agitating workers. According to this agreement a committee was to be set up to go into the problems faced by the transport workers and submit a report by 31st August. After many months there is no information about this committee. Besides this according to the agreement all the vacant posts were to be filled by August end and arrears of payments and dearness allowances was to be cleared for those who had retired.

But the ministry and the department failed to keep this commitments and the workers have been forced to go on indefinite strike.
