Leader of terrorism preaches “counter-terrorism” and slanders Iran

US President Donald Trump addressed leaders of 50 Islamic states on May 21 in Saudi Arabia, during his first foreign trip as President. As the leader of US imperialism, the main source of terrorism in the world today, Trump’s speech on “countering terrorism” was full of hypocrisy, lies and false assertions. Its aim was to attempt to cover up the reality that US imperialism remains the fountainhead of terrorism and of organizing, funding, training and unleashing terrorists groups in various parts of the world, in order to advance its geo-political strategy for world domination.

It is significant that Trump’s speech on “countering terrorism” was delivered from Saudi Arabia, whose close military and strategic links with US imperialism as well as active role in the US imperialist strategy of organizing, nurturing and funding terrorist groups is well-known. The heads of the countries he addressed included those of Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Jordan and Egypt, who are some of the closest strategic allies of US imperialism in the West Asian region. They are rulers who are hated by their own people, for their violation of democratic rights and liberties of the people of their countries, the savage exploitation of the working people, and their brutal suppression of women.

During this trip, defence and other deals worth hundreds of billions of dollars were signed between the US multinational companies, whose representatives accompanied Trump, and the representatives of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain. The wealth of these countries would be used to finance the US military industrial complex, and the arms they acquire will be used to crush the struggles of the peoples of the region against imperialism and the reactionary ruling cliques.

The chieftain of the world’s biggest terrorist and war-monger state shamelessly declared that “Our vision is one of peace, security, and prosperity—in this region, and in the world. . . .Our goal is a coalition of nations who share the aim of stamping out extremism”. He announced the opening of a new “Global Center for Combating Extremist Ideology”, in Saudi Arabia. These steps are indicative of more concerted coordination between US imperialism and its allies in west Asia, with the aim of launching fresh terror attacks in various countries, inciting instability and regime change and carrying out full scale military aggression.

Highlighting the importance of the region in the strategy of US imperialism for world domination, Trump emphasized that “The entire region is at the center of the key shipping lanes of the Suez Canal, the Red Sea, and the Straits of Hormuz. The potential of this region has never been greater.” Trump vowed to “cut off funding for ISIS” and announced the signing of “an agreement to prevent the financing of terrorism, called the Terrorist Financing Targeting Center – co-chaired by the United States and Saudi Arabia, and joined by every member of the Gulf Cooperation Council”. It is well known that US imperialism and its allies in west Asia including Saudi Arabia and Qatar have been the principal financiers, and organizers of the ISIS and other terrorist groups. Trump’s declaration to “cut off funding for ISIS” could be a signal that US imperialism is seeking new ways to finance terrorist groups it sets up.

Trump directed his ire against Iran, the country that has steadfastly withstood the pressures, sanctions and blackmail of US imperialism and its allies.

American imperialist lies and crimes against Iran

Ever since the Iranian revolution nearly 38 years ago, Iran has been the target of attack by the US imperialists and their allies. The US imperialists incited Iraq to launch a bloody war against Iran, killing and wounding millions of people and severely damaging the Iranian economy. Iran has faced military encirclement and severe economic blockade, merely because it dares to have a system of governance not to the liking of the US and because its government has steadfastly exposed and opposed the rapacious activities and brazen interference of the Anglo – American imperialists and their allies in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria and elsewhere.

The US imperialist and their allies have spared no effort in trying to isolate Iran — by propagating falsehood and deceit about Iran in the monopoly media, launching malicious cyber-attacks against the computers operating in Iran’s nuclear facilities, passing anti-Iranian resolutions in the UN Security Council, relentlessly murdering the country’s nuclear scientists, imposing hard-hitting financial sanctions and threatening aggression and war. Other countries, including India have been under pressure to sever trade with Iran.

However Iran has persistently stayed its course in the face of myriad hardships and taken pro–active steps to counter the attempts to isolate it and deny it a role in world affairs. In 2012, the government of Iran took the initiative of hosting a meeting of about 30 countries to oppose intervention in Syria. In 2015 the US leadership finally had to agree to the lifting of some of the most brutal sanctions it had imposed on Iran. The lifting of these sanctions was an acknowledgement by the Obama administration that the US had failed in its efforts to isolate Iran and bring it down on its knees.

Trump accused Iran of providing “safe harbor, financial backing, and the social standing” to terrorists. Turning truth on its head, he declared “From Lebanon to Iraq to Yemen, Iran funds, arms, and trains terrorists, militias, and other extremist groups that spread destruction and chaos across the region. For decades, Iran has fueled the fires of sectarian conflict and terror. It is a government that speaks openly of mass murder, vowing the destruction of Israel, death to America, and ruin for many leaders and nations in this room”. The reality is that Iran stands as an example of inspiration to the peoples of many countries of West Asia who desire to be free from the oppressive rule of imperialist backed regimes. These regimes have left no stone unturned to collaborate with the US imperialists to destroy the Iranian revolution, but have failed. Trump was giving an open message to these reactionary rulers to come together under US leadership to overthrow the regime in Iran.

Trump declared the intent of his government to continue to try to isolate, destabilize and threaten Iran and enforce regime change in that country. “Until the Iranian regime is willing to be a partner for peace (meaning, to toe the US line), all nations of conscience must work together to isolate Iran, deny it funding for terrorism, and pray for the day when the Iranian people have the just and righteous government they deserve”, he said.

In a sharp rejoinder to Trump’s accusations against Iran, the Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, at a Press Conference on May 22, rubbished the allegations and said that “Those who have fought terrorists are the Syrian and Iraqi people. Iran has stood by their side and continues to do so.” Further on, he said, “Those who fund terrorists cannot claim they are fighting against them.” Responding to Trump’s threats to destabilize the Iranian government, he said that “Military power is only part of strength … but the foundation of power is national strength”.

Trump’s speech in Saudi Arabia is a clear message to the people of Asia that US imperialism has not changed its aggressive warmongering course to achieve its aim of establishing its complete domination over Asia. The declaration that it will work to overthrow the Iranian regime, the reference to the missile attacks on Syria in his speech, the open support extended to the Saudi rulers for their invasion and occupation of Yemen, and the stepped up militarization of West Asia are signs of the dangers that lie ahead for all the peoples of our region. Taken together with the open threats to destroy North Korea, the implementation of the Pivot to Asia policy through which US imperialism is forging a military alliance under its leadership to encircle and threaten China, it is clear that US imperialism wants to destroy all obstacles in its path. To achieve its aims, US imperialism is setting countries and peoples of Asia against each other.
