Tribute to Prof. Dalip Singh

Sir,

Sir,

It is with great sadness that I read about the demise of Prof. Dalip Singh, long time fighter of modern India for democratic rights and victim of state oppression during various periods of fascist attacks on the rights of the people of India. I would like to join the CGPI in extending my heartfelt condolences to his family to all those whose lives were touched by his long innings as a teacher and as a fighter for democratic rights. Indeed, it is because of the work of people such as Prof. Singh that organizations such as the Lok Raj Sangathan have come into being and are carrying forward the torch of revolution that is yet to illuminate every nook and corner of the country, which is still groping in the darkness of bourgeois rule. While the bourgeoisie is happy to celebrate the struggles and sacrifices of the thousands of men and women in the pre-1947 India, they wish to snuff out the work and memory of all those who have been martyred at their hands in the post-1947 era. The striking thing is the similarity of the methods and beliefs of the colonial masters and the present day domestic colonial masters, the brown sahibs. The same methods of incarceration and torture, the same pretexts of sedition and threat to the state is used today as indeed it was during the pre-1947 period. When one reads of the treatment meted out to persons such as Prof. Singh, there is a sense of outrage and anger. Today we are as justified in dreaming of an oppression free India as Bhagat Singh and others were justified in dreaming of the same. The life and work of those such as Prof. Singh will remain a shining beacon in this era of darkness. I would like to thank the CGPI for carrying such a moving tribute to Prof. Singh’s life and work.

Sincerely,

Narayan, Bangalore
