The first presentation was on the economic system prevalent in India. It was unequivocally shown that though there are a variety of production relations in the country, the driver of the Indian economy is capitalism. The working class, comprising of workers in the manufacturing, construction, agricultural as well as service sector, comprising of so-called “blue collar” as well as “white collar” workers, “permanent” as well as contract workers, workers in the private as well as “public” sector, constitutes the majority of our working people, and they contribute the major chunk of the GDP. The ruling class is ruthlessly exploiting them with the full support of its state. The rate of exploitation is increasing all the time. The Indian ruling class has imperialist ambitions and is rapidly moving in the direction of fulfilling them. It colludes as well as competes with the imperialists of other countries in their common aim of exploiting and safeguarding this exploitative system. At the same time, capitalist corporations are exploiting the peasantry as well, and their grip on Indian agriculture is being strengthened, to the great detriment of our farmers.
The second presentation was on the challenges facing the Indian working class movement. This dealt with the effect of the wrong lines in the Indian Communist movement, and the impact they have had in terms of keeping the working class divided, diverted, politically marginalized and a tail of the bourgeoisie instead of being the leader of all the exploited and oppressed, in its historic mission to overthrow capitalism and establish socialism and communism. The need of the hour is to overcome ideological and political differences and work towards establishing a revolutionary center of the working class.
The next day was devoted to studying the effects of the two major revisionist trends in the communist movement, which have historically incapacitated the working class of our country, as well as of other countries. The disastrous effects of Khruschevite revisionism with its advocacy of the parliamentary path was elaborated. The content of Mao Tsetung thought and its harmful influence on the Indian communist movement was also discussed.
All the participants actively discussed the party’s line and program. They appreciated the broadmindedness of CGPI in its efforts to include other like-minded individuals in the task of preparing the working class to lead all the oppressed on the path of revolution and socialism.
