Thousands of workers of the Vedanta Aluminum Refining Plant in Lanjigarh, Orissa, went on the war path, when the company suddenly declared their services terminated. About 35 contract workers were reported arrested.

The British multinational Vedanta had terminated the services of these workers following the Central government's refusal of its mining project in Niyamgiri, and questions raised over the illegal expansion of the refining capacity of its Lanjigarh Refinery. The two thousand agitating workers cut off the power supply, forcing the refinery to come to a halt.
