Letters to Editor: Anarchy, Violence and Terror

Dear Editor,

The article in MEL entitled “Anarchy, Violence and Terror Serve to Maintain Capitalist Rule” is very timely, and sheds much needed light on this growing phenomenon in our society today.

People everywhere are getting more and more alarmed by the growth of the politics of violence and terror, and the systematic targeting of individual people and communities on the basis of religion, caste, region and so on. It is clear that those in power are very much behind this, and that they are using this for their agenda.

What this article does so well is to identify what the source of this politics is. It lies in the capitalist system that is going from crisis to crisis, and that needs this kind of politics in order to sustain and perpetuate itself. The big monopoly capitalists ensure that the governments under their control pursue the path that lets them enrich themselves and make super profits at the cost of the livelihood and wellbeing of the working class and people. To ensure that the people are divided and don’t unite on a common platform against them, they need to spread sectarian politics and a climate of fear among the people.

Today, under the rule of BJP at the Centre and in most of the states, state terrorism and sectarian politics has been taken to new levels and assumed new forms. Under these circumstances, it is believed by some that all that is needed is to topple the BJP and restore the Congress party to power. The article makes it clear that this would be a dangerous delusion because both these are parties of the big monopoly bourgeoisie, and defend their interests. The record shows that both are guilty of using the politics of terror and hatred to divide the people and perpetuate the rule of the bourgeoisie. The ruling class is very adept at changing its team at the helm of the state through elections if one of its governments or parties gets too discredited. The other party that comes to power then pursues the same capitalist agenda, for which it uses the same politics of division and terror, only changing some of the forms if necessary.

The article points out very clearly what is the way out of this increasingly alarming situation. It says that the need of the hour is to build the political unity of the working class and all oppressed people around the program of dislodging from power the capitalist class, headed by the monopoly houses. It is this program, and not the program of unseating the BJP from power alone, that can lead to an end to the growing violence, anarchy and terror. Communists everywhere must devote their energy and skills to this task and provide leadership to the movement of the working class and people.
