Letters to Editor – 26 years after the demolition of Babri Masjid

The article represents the living experience of the party which develops both the theory and practice of Marxism-Leninism theory of scientific socialism based on dialectical materialism and class struggle. It is an application of these principles to the political and economic and social reality of India. It repudiates based on its scientific approach the bourgeois theory that India is divided into religious majority and minorities and that the India state stands are the arbiter between these divisions, but rather that the reality is that the Indian state is communal and is a legatee of the colonial state which safeguards the economic interests of the big bourgeoisie and that the state is an instrument of its rule.

This is in response to the in-depth article entitled `26 years after the demolition of the Babri Masjid: The unity and solidarity of the people is being wrecked by the big bourgeoisie and its state’ carried in the Dec. 1-15, 2018 issue of MEL.

The article exposes that the contest in India is between the people and the ruling classes and that religious divisions are a creation of the ruling circles in order to maintain their rule.

The article recalls that in 1992 the destruction of Babri Masjid was engineered as the bourgeoisie launched its programme of liberalization and privatization and cast aside the `socialistic pattern of society’. The new dispensation was to usher in a new era of loot of all sections of the people and the enrichment of a small section of big monopoly houses and big international players. This required a major conflagration and indeed it was to ‘drive a dagger’ into the unity of the people of the country. The destruction of the Babri Masjid which was to be followed by communal pogroms across the country was organized top down by the two main parties of the day which were the BJP and the Congress.

26 years later the issue again raises its ugly head as there is need to divide the people again as the 2019 General Elections near. Whereas anarchy and violence along with periodic elections is the modus operandi of the ruling circles, the people of India watch in alarm as the country is being ripped apart by raucous voices demanding a construction of a Ram temple all of which are sponsored by the big bourgeoisie themselves. At this stage, it is important for everyone to stay calm and ask what is what and to deliberate on questions of the polity. As the crisis of the ruling circles intensifies due to the objective development of the widening gulf between the people and a handful of multi-billionaires, the events will play themselves out.

It would be important at this point to unite against the present order and usher in a new political dispensation which will guard the rights of all and eliminate discrimination of all types. I second the call in this article to unite towards this goal.
