South African – auto workers

Auto workers began strike action in the second week of August 2010 demanding 15 percent pay rise, six months maternity leave and a housing allowance. Around 30,000 members of the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) working for large car manufacturers such as General Motors, Ford and BMW participated in the action.

Around 30,000 members of the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) working for large car manufacturers such as General Motors, Ford and BMW participated in the action.

The NUMSA is planning to intensify the struggle by involving workers in allied industries.
