Hundreds of activists marched from Mandi House to Parliament, in New Delhi, on the morning of November 8, 2010, to protest against the visit of US President Obama to our country. A sea of red flags and banners marked the event jointly organised by the Communist Ghadar Party of India, the Socialist Unity Center of India (Communist), the Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, the Lok Raj Sangathan, the All India Workers Council, CPDM, Delhi Shramik Sangathan and Janpaksha.
The demonstration was led by members of the participating organisations, holding a huge red banner declaring "US imperialist chieftain Obama, get out of India!" The protestors carried red banners and placards bearing slogans such as "Support the just struggles of the people of Pakistan against US military aggression!", "Support the just struggle of the people of Afghanistan against US military occupation!", "Support the just struggles of the peoples of Iraq and Iran against US imperialism!", "Peoples of South Asia, unite and throw out the US imperialists from our region!", "Long live the anti imperialist unity of the peoples of South Asia!", "Down with the Indo US strategic alliance!", "The fountainhead of terrorism is US imperialism!", "Down with imperialism and war!", "Fight for anti – imperialist unity and peace!".
The protest march culminated in a militant rally in front of parliament. The rally was addressed by leaders of the participating organisations.
Addressing the rally, comrade Prakash Rao, spokesperson of the Communist Ghadar Party of India highlighted the fact that US imperialism is on an aggressive course. It sees in fascism at home and imperialist wars abroad, a way out of the deep crisis. It is eyeing the South Asian subcontinent, aiming to expand its markets and subjugate our resources and peoples. It is aiming to break the challenge of a rising imperialist China by forming an alliance with India. The events of the past three decades show that it is US imperialism that planted the seeds of terrorism in South Asia, beginning with Afghanistan and Pakistan. It is using terrorism as a weapon to divide and divert the peoples of South Asia from forging anti imperialist unity and throwing the imperialists out of Asia. All the countries of Asia are facing the threat of US imperialism. In these conditions, to advance the narrow interests of the imperialist bourgeoisie of our country, the UPA government is continuing on the dangerous course of building a strategic alliance with US, including a military alliance. Such a course will lead to our country getting embroiled in a reactionary war, with grave consequences for our people and all other peoples.
Comrade Krishna Chakravorty, Politburo member, SUCI(C), denounced the government of India for giving a red carpet welcome to US imperialist chieftain Obama, at a time when the people of Iraq and Afghanistan are under the jackboots of US military rule, when zionist Israel is being backed by US imperialism it its attacks on the Palestinian people, when the US is adopting an openly belligerent posture against Iran, Cuba and North Korea. US imperialism has long been aggravating the contradictions between India and Pakistan and continuing to keep up tensions in this region, with a view to sell its military hardware to both our countries. Obama's visit is in the interest of the expansionist aspirations of the Indian capitalist state. The US sees India as a reliable partner in its global imperialist strategy and as a huge market for its military hardware. He called on the glorious anti imperialist tradition of the Indian people and declared that his organisation will be holding protest demonstrations all over the country against Obama's visit.
Dr. Tarun Mandal, MP (Lok Sabha) of the SUCI(C) also addressed the rally and denounced US imperialism as the worst enemy of freedom, democracy, liberty, sovereignty and the chief of terrorism in the world.
Other speakers who addressed the rally included the President of the All India Kisan-Khet Mazdoor Sangathan, leaders of the Jamaat Islami e Hind, Lok Raj Sangathan, All India Workers Council, CPDM, Delhi Shramik Sangathan as well as of the Hind Naujawan Ekta Sabha and the Purogami Mahila Sangathan.
The rally concluded with the resolve that the people of India will continue to forge unity with the peoples of Pakistan and other countries against the US imperialist war plans, in defence of the sovereignty of peoples and peace.
