Anti-worker demands by Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industries

On 17 April 2020, the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industries (GCCI) submitted the following demands to the Union Ministry of Labour and Employment:

(i)   Suspend the right to form a union under the Industrial Disputes Act for at least the financial year 2020-21.

(ii)  Review the decision asking employers to pay full salary for the period of the lockdown.

(iii) Extend the period to clear dues related to provident fund and insurance by 90 days.

(iv)  Reduce the pay of contractual and permanent workers to Rs 202 per day in accordance with MNREGA.

The demands of the GCCI are a direct attack by capitalists on the rights of workers under the pretext of pandemic crisis to further increase their exploitation to safeguard their profits. Mazdoor Ekta Lehar condemns the attempts of the GCCI to attack the rights of workers and demands the total rejection of demands of the GCCI by the Union government.
