22nd Anniversary of the demolition of Babri Masjid
Protests and demonstrations across the country marked the 22nd anniversary of the demolition of Babri Masjid. From Kolkatta to Malegaon and from Dehradun to Coimbatore, people came out on the streets in hundreds of thousands to demonstrate their anger with what happened 22 years ago – the criminal act of the demolition of the Masjid and the communal killings organized by the State in its aftermath.
Delhi witnessed a massive rally from Mandi House to Jantar Mantar that culminated in a 3 hour meeting at which speakers from about 30 organisations condemned the criminal act and committed to unite against state terrorism and fight for the renewal of Indian Society.
Starting from 10 a.m. in the morning, hundreds of people began assembling at Mandi House. The numbers swelled and by about 11:30 a.m. the rally began with thousands of protestors marching in a disciplined manner behind the main banner, which boldly declared, ‘Unite against communal hate-mongering and violence, state terror and for rebuilding a just society!’ and ‘An attack on one is an attack on all!’ Representatives of all the organisations were with the main banner as the rally proceeded towards Jantar Mantar. Militant slogans of “Down with State Terror” and demanding punishment of those guilty of the crime reverberated in the air.
