Firm stance needed against warmongering and intervention by imperialist powers

The upcoming NAM summit in Tehran is plainly not only an opportunity for Iran to further thwart the efforts of to isolate it, but also for such participating countries to take steps in coordination with each other to deal with the dangerous situation in the region and the world. Their leaders are expected to rise to the occasion and take a firm stance against the warmongering and blatant interventions by the imperialist powers.

It is 15 years since the passing away of Comrade Hardial Bains (15 August, 1939 – 24 August, 1997), who was the principal architect of our Party and its founding.

Army rule is the reality in most parts of the North East.  For the peoples of the North-East, the departure of the British in 1947 did not mean the end of colonial rule.  The region has been ruled virtually as a colony from New Delhi right from that time.  When the peoples of this region have demanded their national and political rights, they have been beaten down ruthlessly, and called agents of foreign powers.

Having been at the receiving end of repression and terror at the hands of the central state and its agencies for so many decades, it is natural that the peoples of this region do not trust the central leaders, who are today promising protection for North-Eastern peoples, declaring they are all Indians.  Many of them can see that this is actually a veiled threat; they are being told to better be loyal to the Indian Union and its policy, if they want to feel safe.

Our MEL reporter was witness to a first of it’s kind meeting of Motormen associations and Passenger associations held in Mumbai. This meeting was held on 28^th July and lasted for almost 5 hours ! Our correspondent reports:
