On the occasion of International Human Rights Day December 10, 2011

The world, including our country, is witness to the most grotesque violation of human rights.

An anti-nuclear protest demonstration was organized on December 8 at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi by various organisations including Lok Raj Sangathan, CNDP, NAPM, AISA, INSAF, Delhi Forum, Delhi Solidarity Group, Delhi Platform, and Artists against Nuclear Power.

Nuclear establishment officials shy away from answering the genuine questions!

More than 1000 people had jam packed the Veer Sawarkar Sabhagruh in Dadar, Mumbai, on 29th November’11 even before the scheduled start of the meeting. Almost a hundred people had travelled from far off Madban (near Jaitapur, where the government is trying to build the nuclear plant).

It is customary for numerous meetings to be held in Imphal and nearby districts on 30th September every year in memory of Comrade Irabot, a legendary communist leader of Manipur. This year’s events were marked by a lively debate that broke out over what it means to uphold his example today.

The All India Loco Running Staff Association (AILRSA)) organized a countrywide protest on November 15, 2011 in support of their long standing demands. Engine drivers all over the country went on a 24 hour fast to mark their protest.

Overall, peasants have lost their economic independence, their livelihood, their land, the collective life and culture of the village.  

They are doing this not to develop India. India's development should mean how the ordinary workers and peasants prosper. If we see that way, exploitation by the capitalists has increased and so has the number of poor people in India. The land, water and labour of our people are being super exploited. Our experience in Ashok Leyland over these years show that people have not benefited by the policy of privatization and liberalization. Only big capitalists have become richer. 

As a result of trade getting shifted to large corporate retail houses, lakhs of small traders will be thrown onto the streets without livelihood. And once monopolies capture the entire market, they will supply poor quality products  at  high prices to make maximum profits.
