Sir, I found the article entitled “The struggle for human rights is in essence the struggle for proletarian democracy’’ in the December 1-15, 2010 issue of MEL to be of immense value and educational. It is in the highest tradition of scientific analysis of which the CGPI is the fountainhead. It is an article that is necessarily partisan as the CGPI is the vanguard of the working class.

Striking workers in Cochin port win pay hike

Workers of Cochin Port went on strike on 30 November, 2010 for five days. The employees of the India Gateway Terminal in Cochin, owned by DP World, were demanding an increase in wages. The strike action paralysed the transportation of containers to and from the terminal, impacting Christmas and New Year shipments.  One container ship was diverted to New Mangalore Port as a result of the action.

Massive protest of teachers in Hyderabad

Teachers across the state of Andhra Pradesh were prevented by police road blocks from reaching demonstrations in Hyderabad, organised by the Joint Action Committee of Employees, Teachers, Workers and Pensioners (JAC). Thousands of strikers were detained by police but despite this there was a massive demonstration in Hyderabad.

Chhattisgarh steel workers face a threat to their jobs

About 50,000 workers employed with 175 mini steel plants in Chhattisgarh face a threat to their jobs as the factory owners have announced plans to close their units amid rising prices of sponge iron used as raw material. This was announced by the President of the Chhattisgarh Mini Steel Plants Association. The Association is demanding a bail out package from the state government.
