The National Monetisation Pipeline is aimed at handing over the mineral wealth, the land, and the infrastructure assets that belong to the whole of society to monopoly capitalists. The results of the past two years, shows that the government is finding it difficult to implement this plan in the face of mounting opposition of workers and working people to privatisation.

They were protesting against French President Emmanuel Macron’s plan to raise the legal age of retirement to 64 from 62, thereby denying them their due pension for another two years.

Struggle of people of Punjab against life-threatening liquor factory
Kisans of Mansurwal village in Zira tehsil, Ferozepur, and its adjoining regions in Punjab have been protesting for over five months against Malbros International Limited, an alcohol manufacturing plant. The villagers are protesting against the hazardous effects of the discharge from the liquor factory on their groundwater, soil and the environment, which have already claimed several lives of humans.

Mass protests of people of Haldwani against evictions
Haldwani, in Uttarakhand, has been the scene of unprecedented protests by people against the threat of forcible eviction from their homes by the government of Uttarakhand. The protests began following the order of the Uttarakhand High Court on December 20, 2022, which authorized the use of force to evict thousands of families from 78 acres of land in Banbhoolpura claimed by the Railways.

Mass layoffs of thousands of workers worldwide by Amazon
Amazon started laying off thousands of employees globally as 2022 drew to a close. The giant corporation has cut jobs across its various businesses, citing losses. India accounts for about 7% of Amazon’s total workforce of over 1.5 million. It was reported in early January 2022 that 18,000 Amazon employees in India had been laid off since September 2022.

Petroleum and gas workers to step up struggle
Petroleum and gas workers have decided to step up their struggle against the anti-social, anti-national and anti-worker program of privatization and in defence of their rights as workers. They will coordinate with electricity and coal workers to organize a united All India strike of energy sector workers in the near future. This decision was taken by the Petroleum and Gas Workers’ Federation of India (PGWFI) at its fifth triennial conference held at Duliajan, Assam in December 2022.
