Power sector workers protest against the Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2022

The Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2022 was introduced in the Lok Sabha on August 8, 2022. The Bill, which had earlier not been listed for the monsoon session of Parliament, was hurriedly introduced at the last minute. It was opposed by many opposition parties in parliament. Subsequently, it was referred to the parliamentary standing committee on energy for further consultations.

Sanitation workers of Karnataka win struggle for regularisation of jobs

Thousands of sanitation workers of Karnataka went on a militant indefinite strike on July 1, demanding regularisation of their jobs. The sanitation workers, called pourakarmikas, are mainly women workers. Their strike effected sanitation work not only in the 198 wards of Bengaluru, but in all the districts of Karnataka.
