Farmers and workers jammed the Bharat Mata chowk at Hanumangarh district in Rajasthan with their protests on 8 October. This action was in support of their demand that the kharif crops – moong, paddy, bajra and peanuts – should be purchased at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for the respective crop.The plan to hold the protest was made on 4 October at the site. The program was organised under the banner of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha.

Right to MSP Conventions held in Maharashtra

Vidarbha and Marathwada are two backward regions of Maharashtra. Cotton, soyabean, and tur are the main crops here. These two regions have seen the largest number of farmers’ suicides in the state due to indebtedness. Guaranteed procurement of their crops at the announced Minimum Support Price (MSP) is a necessity for them to come out of their debt crisis.

The demand of kisans for guaranteed procurement at MSPs is part of the struggle against orienting agriculture towards fulfilling capitalist greed. It is in the service of ensuring secure livelihood for those who produce food and ensuring adequate availability of food at affordable prices for all.  It deserves unconditional support from the working class and people.
