Signal and Telecom workers of the Indian Railways demand safe working conditions

Workers of Signal and Telecom department (S&T) of Indian Railways have declared that on 14th March 2024, they will be working with black bands on their right shirt sleeves fasting during the work day and maintaining complete silence. This will be an expression of their protest that their demands have been ignored.

Informal sector workers across the country demand their rights

Thousands of workers of the informal sector, including construction, agriculture, domestic work, fisheries, etc. as well as gig workers, came together in a huge rally at Jantar Mantar, outside Parliament on February 7. They demanded comprehensive legal protection for their rights as workers.

Historic strike by Amazon workers in several countries

November 24, was marked by worldwide protests and strike actions by workers of Amazon. On that day, which is one of the busiest days for sales in North America and Europe, thousands of Amazon delivery and warehouse workers went on strike simultaneously, in about 30 countries.

Coal workers oppose privatisation

Colliery Mazdoor Sabha of India (CMSI) recently held an anti-privatisation convention in Asansol in West Bengal. The focus of the convention was to highlight how the Central government was trying to privatise different operations of this industry. The Central government has already sold 37% shares of the public sector Coal India Limited.

ASHA workers get wage increase following prolonged struggle

ASHA workers in Haryana received some relief with the announcement of an increase of Rs 2,100 in their monthly stipend after a sustained struggle of over two months. This increase takes their monthly income to Rs 6,100.

Contract Workers of Southern Naval Command in Kerala denied wages and job security

Thousands of contract workers are employed by different contractors from various parts of the country, in the two bases of the Indian Navy under the Southern Naval Command, in Kochi and Kannur in Kerala. These contract workers are denied the statutory minimum wages. They have no job security and no social security measures. According to a notification issued by the Union government, they are eligible for wages of Rs 617 per day, which is supposed to be revised every six months. However, workers employed by several contract companies have complained that they are not being paid these wages.
