In return, kisans are promised compensation in cash and participation in plans for future development. However, life experience has made it clear to the kisans that once they lose their land, they lose their future, and notwithstanding which party is in power, the promises of benefits of future development for the kisans are always broken. In every such case, kisans have united to oppose the attempts by the state to take over their land. They have been successful both in Karnataka earlier, and now in Punjab.
