Massive rally in Karnataka

Thousands of workers of Karnataka from the "unorganised sector" of the economy — those not covered by the labour laws staged a protest march in Bangalore on November 24, 2010.

Denouncing the practice of contract labour, the workers demanded a hike in minimum wages, ration cards to all workers, and rice at Rs 2 a Kg to every family.

Denouncing the practice of contract labour, the workers demanded a hike in minimum wages, ration cards to all workers, and rice at Rs 2 a Kg to every family. 

Auto drivers, anganwadi workers, beedi rollers, garment employees, loaders and construction workers participated in the rally.The workers demanded abolishing of contract labour and regularising of contract workers. They also requested allotment of houses to workers and the poor and free sites for slum-dwellers. They demanded that authorities should strictly implement the labour laws.
