Amendments to the Maharashtra Special Public Security Bill 2024:
People demand repeal of the Bill and not amendments

It has been reported that more than 12000 people and dozens of organizations representing lakhs of members submitted their written opposition to the Bill, most of them calling for its complete repeal. Not even one of them was called by the government for discussion.

The “show” of “amending” without really changing the anti-democratic repressive character of the Bill must be exposed and condemned. All the working people of Maharashtra must vigorously declare: “We don’t want any amendments to the Bill, we want its complete repeal!”

Successful conclusion of the Sixth Congress of the Communist Ghadar Party of India

In his concluding remarks to the Congress, Comrade Lal Singh called upon the party comrades to build and strengthen the mass organisations of workers and other sections of the people, and strive to develop political unity in the course of combating the offensive of the bourgeoisie. Workers Unity Movement joins IT unions and other workers organisations in condemning the Karnataka government’s move to extend daily working hours from 10 to 12 and raise the present limit on overtime work from 50 hours in a period of 3 months to 144 hours. Among other measures, the amendment will allow IT and ITES companies to force women to work during night shifts.

Massive protests in the USA

Participants in the mass protests carried placards which declared “No Kings!”, “Abolish ICE” and “No endless wars!” They demanded that the political prisoners who were targeted for organizing in support of Palestine be released. They called on the U.S. and Israel to End the Genocide Now!  They denounced the Israel’s criminal attack on Iran.

What was the aim behind the declaration of Emergency?

The 50th anniversary of the declaration of Emergency is a suitable occasion for all progressive forces to seriously address this question. It is necessary to dispel the confusion that bourgeois politicians and scholars have been spreading to cover up the real aim underlying the declaration of Emergency in June 1975. This is especially important in the present context of draconian laws being used to launch all-sided attacks on democratic rights, without even having to declare a state of emergency.
