An interview with the State Secretary of the Haryana Guest Teachers Union, Shri Satish Yadav

Thousands of guest teachers of of Mahendargarh district of Haryana are on dharna since 17th June 2015 for their demand of regularisation of their jobs. Subsequently, from 23rd June, guest teachers have gone on an indefinite fast.

On July 5, the Bhatinda police savagely assaulted school teachers who had organized a protest rally in the town. The teachers, the majority of them women, were attacked by the police simply for demanding payment of their pending salaries, and regularization of their jobs. According to reports, the police lathi charged the teachers, physically dragged them by the hair, and abused them.

Militant demonstration of guest teachers before Haryana Bhavan

Hundreds of guest teachers of Haryana demonstrated militantly on 11th July in front of Haryana Bhavan. Notwithstanding the rainfall, despite getting drenched, the men and women guest teachers continued their protests in support of their demand to be made permanent.

Delhi’s AAP government has increased the salaries of guest teachers working in government schools by a mere Rs.100/day. The government is patting itself on the back and claiming to be a pro-people government. But reality is to the contrary. For the past several years, guest teachers have been working at minimum wages.
