Comrades Dhunichand and Ashok (members of the Haryana Council of Lok Raj Sangathan) and Comrade Yogendra (progressive farmer) presided over the seminar. Comrade Hanuman Prasad Sharma, Lok Raj Sangathan’s Vice President, and well-known leader of Rajasthan Teachers and Employees led the discussion.
Students, Workers and Kisans participated very enthusiastically in the seminar.
Com. Dhunichand talked about the increasing move of the Indian state towards fascism in the prevailing context. Drawing lessons from history, he pointed out that Nazi and fascist forces sowed racist prejudice in the hearts of workers and peasants through lying propaganda and illusory slogans. These fascist forces murdered lakhs and lakhs of workers and communists in Germany and several other countries. The largest business houses and monopoly capitalists under the leadership of the US supported Nazi Germany. The imperialists wanted to use Nazi Germany to destroy Socialist Soviet Union. The October Revolution and establishment of socialism in SU inspired the workers and toilers worldwide to advance their struggle and challenge the colonial and imperialist system. This was a big threat to the colonial and imperialist system. However under the leadership of Com. Stalin, the Bolshevik Party and Soviet people defeated the Nazi forces resoundingly. Several countries were able to advance the struggle against colonialism and imperialism and many of them were able to break the chains of the imperialist system.
He pointed out that years after the end of WWII, US imperialism is still dominating the world. Especially after the collapse of the Soviet Union, US imperialism has been trying to bring the whole world under its hegemony. Towards this end, US imperialism connives with other imperialist states to blatantly violate the sovereignty of various countries. It spawns terrorist and fascist groups in these countries and attempts to carry out regime changes through military means. The ruling class of our country has entered into strategic alliance with US imperialism and is dragging our people towards war to feed its aspirations to be part of the imperialist states. Protecting the interests of the biggest Indian and foreign monopolies, it has brazenly introduced the most fascist legislation to intensify the exploitation of our workers and peasants, while mercilessly suppressing the struggles of the people.
Following this, Com. Hanuman Prasad Sharma invited the audience to share their views and led the discussion on the subject.
Many speakers elaborated on the fascist steps being taken by the ruling class of our country. Speakers pointed out that on the one hand the ruling class is robbing the workers and peasants to increase the profits of the capitalists, and on the other, it gives the Indian and foreign monopolies full scope to displace our peoples who are dependent on the forests and water sources of the country from their homes. Such examples abound in Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Orissa and other states.
Speakers pointed out how labour laws were being amended in the interests of the Indian and foreign monopolies. Increasing contract labour, denying workers minimum wages, laying off workers very easily and refusing to register all workers – Rajasthan state government is ahead of all other states in taking these steps. Education and transport are being privatized. Public resources, social services, natural resources, the savings of working people are all being placed at the disposal of the monopoly capitalists.
Speakers condemned the move of the State government to privatize the Primary Health Centres (PHCs). They said that the government is failing in its responsibility to improve the health services through appointment of doctors and nurses to fill vacancies. Presently, there is an acute scarcity of doctors, nurses and basic services required by the people. Even today, it is extremely difficult for people living in far flung areas to access health services. Privatisation of PHCs will exacerbate this problem. It is common knowledge that the private sector is driven by high profits and not by the motive of providing necessary services to the people. The Rajasthan government has decided, just recently, to privatize 2082 PHCs. Towards this, 96 PHCs have been privatized. We should determinedly oppose this move.
Comrade Kanhaiyya Lal Jain (member of LRS), Com. Maniran Lakheswar (member of Medical Association), Com. Mittu Lal (union activist), Com. Subhas (student), Com. Om Sanger (Hind Naujavan Ekta Sabha), Com. Vinod Khati, Com.Krishna Naukhval and Com. Om Dev, Com. Rajesh Khati (Nirman Union) and Com. Anil Godhara (activist of a student organisation) were among those who addressed the meeting.
Concluding the meeting, Com. Hanuman Prasad Sharma gave a call to all present to unitedly oppose the anti-worker and anti-peasant policies of the state government.
